HARBOR AT CLIFTON PARK TO OFFER FREE SCREENINGS
FOR ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE THROUGHOUT SEPTEMBER

Alzheimer’s Association To Interested Seniors And Their Families
Clifton Park, NY (September xx, 2002)—Throughout the month of
September, The Harbor at Clifton Park will provide free memory
screenings to area seniors. The test, which is known as the Mini Mental
State Exam (MMSE) is recognized nationally as the best tool for
determining whether an individual suffers from, or is at risk for,
Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and other cognitive impairments. The Harbor at
Clifton Park will also purchase memberships to the Alzheimer’s
Association for interested seniors who take the exam.
“It can be terrifying for seniors and their loved ones to face the
prospect of Alzheimer’s Disease,” said Caitlin St. George, Director of
Community Relations at The Harbor at Clifton Park. “By providing these
free screenings, we are hoping to help seniors diagnose the problem
early. For those who learn that they may have the disease, the
Alzheimer’s Association membership, along with physician involvement,
will be the first steps towards receiving effective treatment.”
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4 million Americans have
Alzheimer’s Disease, and 14 million will have AD by 2050. Currently, 1
in 10 seniors over 65, and nearly half of those over 85, have AD.
