SHREWSBURY CROSSINGS BREAKS GROUND ON EXPANSION

Assisted Living Community To Add 12 New Apartments

Shrewsbury, Mass. (August 23, 2002) – John L. Hopkins, president and chief operating officer of Benchmark Assisted Living, today announced that the company has broken ground on the expansion of Shrewsbury Crossings in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. The assisted living community is adding a mix of 12 one-bedroom and studio apartments, increasing the total number of apartments offered to area seniors from 52 to 64. The new apartments will be completed and ready for occupation by the end of 2002. Shrewsbury Crossings is a Benchmark Assisted Living Community.
