The donation will be given in honor of those living with Alzheimer’s disease and will be used to replenish forests and preserve the habitat of the wildlife in Connecticut. “Benchmark prides itself on building strong relationships with worthwhile foundations –like the National Arbor Day Foundation –and positively impacting the towns where we live and work,” said Patrick Collins, vice president of regional operations for Benchmark Assisted Living. “Benchmark understands the profound effect that Alzheimer’s has had with families across the country and we hope the trees that will be planted with this grant money will pay a proper and symbolic tribute to those seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease.” Supported by a team of experienced staff members, the community’s new Harbor Program consists of 30 new studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. All apartments are located within a secure area and overlook an outside courtyard. Harbor residents started moving in during the month of April 2006. Benchmark is well-known throughout the Northeast for its exceptional Harbor Programs in its communities. More than 4 million people in the United States have Alzheimer’s disease and approximately 100,000 live in the state of Connecticut. It is a disease that requires specialized care and services. Alzheimer’s residents need to feel comfortable and safe in their surroundings in order to thrive. The caregivers at Benchmark get to know each resident so that they can understand what makes each person happy and feel at home. Benchmark then designs a specialized plan for that resident to meet his or her individual needs. About Benchmark Assisted Living ###
