Blenheim-Newport Opens New Harbor Program for the Memory Impaired Middletown, RI – (February 20, 2007) – Blenheim-Newport senior living community today announced that it will be opening its greatly-anticipated Harbor Program for Memory Impaired residents on Monday, March 5. Located at 303 Valley Road in Middletown, on fifteen beautiful acres of land, the community will now feature specially-designed, high-quality care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders. The community will also continue to provide traditional assisted living. Supported by a team of experienced staff members, the community’s new Harbor Program consists of 18 new studio apartments. All apartments are located within a secure area of the living community. Harbor residents start moving in during the month of March 2007. The Harbor Program is an innovative and nationally recognized program that provides specialized care and enhanced quality of life to seniors with memory impairments through meaningful daily activities and a focus on each resident’s individual needs and interests. The program was started six years ago by Benchmark Assisted Living, the largest privately-held senior living provider in the Northeast and operator of Blenheim-Newport. “The demand for dementia care across the country is drastically increasing. It is of the utmost importance to the leadership and caregivers at Blenheim that we meet all the needs of our neighbors,” said Nagy Webby, Executive Director of Blenheim-Newport. “This expansion of our services shows our level of commitment to our residents and those in need in the surrounding community. We constantly strive to be the most comprehensive senior living community in the area and with our new breadth of services can provide the best living experience for seniors in the region.” More than 4.5 million people in the United States have Alzheimer’s disease and approximately 25,000 live in the state of Rhode Island. A disease that requires specialized care and services, Alzheimer’s residents need to feel comfortable and safe in their surroundings in order to thrive. The caregivers at Benchmark get to know each resident so that they understand what makes each person happy and feel at home. Benchmark then designs a specialized plan for that resident to meet his or her individual needs.
