BENCHMARK CHAIRMAN AND CEO THOMAS H. GRAPE ANNOUNCES KEY MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS

Adds Leadership Roles to Prepare for Portfolio Expansion in 2001

(Wellesley, MA) In a strategic move to prepare for portfolio expansion in 2001, Benchmark Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Thomas H. Grape announces the appointments and promotions of key management personnel.

Benchmark Assisted Living is the largest privately owned provider of assisted living in New England with 15 assisted living communities in the region. Grape expects to double the company's portfolio size this year. Benchmark was founded four years ago this month.

Grape's most significant appointment is that of John L. Hopkins to President and Chief Operating Officer for the company. Hopkins joined Benchmark in August 2000 as Chief Operating Officer and has played a key role in building and strengthening the management and overall performance of the company. With a team of experienced professionals, Hopkins exercises a concentrated focus in operations, innovative marketing and quality resident care at each Benchmark community. Hopkins brings extensive operations and customer service experience to Benchmark, most recently as Executive Vice President of Omni Hotels.

Additionally, Nancy E. Moore has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Operations. An experienced operations executive, Moore has been with Benchmark for one year and is identified as a performance focused leader for the multiple communities in which she oversees. Prior to joining Benchmark, Moore was Vice President of Operations for Parkside Senior Services.

John Ralosky joins the company as Vice President of Operations. Ralosky brings extensive senior-level, multi-facility management experience to Benchmark, most recently as Vice President of Operations for Carillon Assisted Living in North Carolina. Ralosky will oversee operations for multiple Benchmark communities throughout New England. Jack McCarthy has been named Regional Director of Sales and Marketing providing oversight to the on-site marketing efforts at Benchmark. McCarthy brings over 17 years experience in sales and sales management, most recently as Regional Sales Director for Beverly Enterprises, the largest long-term care services provider in the country.
